part 1 : The power of a 5 year olds love <3

I grew up in a small town, Apalachin, NY. This is where I spent most of my young childhood. You know, when everything was always the way that is should be, and if anything ever went wrong, mom and dad were always there to make it better. I have so many wonderful memories if growing up there, but I have one that is especially special to me (yes, I know that is redundant, but I don't pride myself on being an eloquent writer!).
It was a wonderfully beautiful day (the kind that you see in the fairy tails! The sun was shining, and there were big marshmallow clouds in the sky! oh it was beautiful)and being only 5 or 6 years old, all I wanted to do was go and play outside. It was a small town and everybody knew everybody, so when I asked if I could take my little sister out to play (about 3 years old at the time), it was probably a relief to my mom to have us occupied for a couple of hours!
Our neighbors across the street lived right next door to the church. This is where we would always go to play. There was a huge field separating the church building from the neighbor, and along the back edge of the field were what seemed like hundreds of wild raspberry and blackberry bushes (every summer we would get patriotic and, being little kids, go picking them just make a huge red and blue mess of ourselves!) Well, enough about that! I was getting to the swing set that the neighbors kept in the backyard. It was the coolest swing set in the whole world! It had two swings, a chin up bar, a teeter-toter, a swing that had two seats facing each other, and it even had a SLIDE!! (no, really, it was a piece of crap, complete with rusty hinges and the almost definite promise of tipping over! But to a 5 year old, it was heaven!) So my sister and I are having the time of our lives, playing silly little games, when out of the corner of my eye, I see a tiny little....something... moving in the tall grass of the field.
And thats all I remember!
just kidding.
So, as I get closer and closer to this mystery thing, I start recognizing the form of a tiny little kitten. It was the cutes thing I had ever seen. If anyone says there is no such thing as love at first sight, I will put up the fight of their life! This little kitten could not have been more than a couple of weeks old. White with brown, black, and orange patches. A cute little pink nose, and the most beautiful green eyes. This little kitten could fit in the palms of my hands. I WAS FIVE!! We played for hours (at least if felt like it). I was in love.
There was no way I was going to ever let go of this kitten. I took her home with me. A little five year old running home, bouncing kitty in her outstretched arms,to show mommy what she had found.
"ABSOLUTELY NOT!" My outstreched kitten slowly finds the comfort of my little grasp. How could she? I loved her! Of course I was not thinking about the fact that we had a 65lb. dog with a sketchy temper AND my dad and brother are both highly allergic to cats!
I sat on the back porch and tried to explain to the kitty why she couldn't stay. It wasn't her fault! I was glad that we gave the kitty a little milk, although it was promptly regurgitated onto my foot! But I knew it was inevitable. After what seemed like hours of begging and crying, I was exhausted. I had to go put the kitty back where I found it. My mom assured me....

"Don't worry, it will find its way back home."

That night, I cried myself to sleep. I fell in love with that kitty. I was heartbroken. Before I knew it, I was asleep, and it was morning. Still thinking about the day before, I went about my morning routine. Eat breakfast, watch some t.v. You know, the usual little kid morning. I get ready to go and play outside (yes, you know what Im up to. I want to go and find my kitty!),
I open the door to the back porch to go out and play, and there she is, meowing at my feet...Meow..(pick me up)...meow...(I love you mommy!)...meow...(I'm so incredibly cute!)...
When mom came out, it was obvious that she was having a hard time resisting the powers of the cutest kitten in the world!
SUCCESS!! Mom was giving in! The decision was made that we would give it a try. But the odds were against us. Before the first groeling test, I sat down with my kitty for a little pep-talk. " Ok now kitty, this is going to be really scary, but you have to be brave,ok?" Bringing the cat into the house was not something we expected to go well. Yes, the dog barked, and yes, the kitten hid under the couch for a LONG TIME, but as the time went by, they started to get along. Phew. Slowly but surely, the first test was passed. Now, keep in mind that my brother had chronic allergies and asthma. This wasn't looking good. No cat has ever been able to be in the same room with him without him blowing up like a balloon. This is how I knew that I found that cat for a reason. She needed me. The cat had no effect on my brother, or my dad. She is the only one.
So, in the end, she did find her way back home. I got to keep my sweet baby girl.
......To be continued......
